Let’s face it: your storage space has become a chaotic catch-all. It’s like the Bermuda Triangle of your home, with leftover paint cans from the previous owner, bins of “just-in-case” clothes, and piles of mystery items. The thought of diving into that mess might be enough to make you want to scream.
Sound familiar? You’re not alone. One of our clients was in the same boat when she called us for help. And here’s the good news: with a little guidance, you can turn that chaos into a functional, organized dream space. We’ll walk you through exactly how we helped her and share plenty of tips to inspire your own transformation. Ready to reclaim your sanity (and your storage)?
The “Before” Situation
Picture this: shelves lined every wall, and the center of the room was jammed with three enormous shelves—two back-to-back and one awkwardly blocking access. Finding anything? Forget it. Forgotten treasures like outgrown kids’ clothes were buried, and duplicates were a regular occurrence because, let’s be honest, no one could find what they already had. If this feels like your current reality, don’t worry—you’re in the right place.
Take a look at the slideshow below to see the "before" chaos—we’ve all been there!
The Purge: Declutter Like a Pro
Here’s the truth: most storage problems aren’t about poor organization. They’re about having too much stuff you don’t even use. So, we rolled up our sleeves and tackled the clutter head-on. The result? A massive decluttering revolution.
What we cleared out:
One dumpster of unneeded items.
Two vanloads of donations.
Baby clothes and gift bags were donated to Arbor Youth Services for their community baby shower. Learn more about donating to Arbor Youth here!
Oh, and those bulky center shelves? We gave two away through a free curb alert on Facebook Marketplace and moved the third to an outer wall. While we were at it, we set some larger items on the curb—and they disappeared in seconds!
Pro Tip: Don’t hang on to things “just in case” if you’re not actively using them. Spoiler alert: they’ll likely end up in the trash eventually. Save yourself the hassle and let them go now!
Check out our dumpster halfway through the process—we cleared out so much that we donated 11 totes of stuff!
Creating Functional Organization
With a blank slate, we got to work designing a storage space that’s not just tidy but also functional. Here’s how we did it:
1. Revamped the “Gift Wrap Wall”
Wreaths went from hidden bags to proudly hanging on the wall.
Step stools? Hung up for easy access.
Gift wrap supplies? Streamlined and relocated to a guest room closet for better accessibility:
Wrapping paper: under-bed storage.
Gift bags: a hanging organizer.
Bows: a divided tote.

2. Streamlined Paint Storage
We tackled the leftover paint situation with Touch-Up Cups:
Took her current wall paints to Sherwin-Williams for a shake-up and new labels.
Moved paints into Touch-Up Cups for easy use and simplier storage.
Donated the large paint cans to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore.

3. Upgraded Lighting
No more dungeon vibes! We installed two motion-activated lights (1200 lumens each) because storage spaces deserve to shine, too. Trust us—good lighting makes all the difference. You can find the exact lighting we installed here.

Pro Tips To Declutter and Organize Your Own Storage Space
Feeling inspired? Here are some quick takeaways to try at home:
Declutter with Purpose: Donate items you no longer use. Those baby clothes or extra gift bags could make a big difference for someone else.
Think Outside the (Storage) Box: Hang what you can—like wreaths or step stools—to save floor space. A pegboard is an affordable, game-changing solution.
Be Mindful of New Stuff: Before clicking “Add to Cart,” ask yourself if you really need it. Preventing clutter starts with thoughtful purchasing.
Gift Bag Reality Check: You probably don’t need as many as you think. Donate the extras and let the gift-bag cycle work its magic.
